ANSWER

Part 1 – Descriptive Statistics:

  1. Research Question: Develop a research question that can be answered using descriptive statistics based on the dataset you chose. For example, if your dataset is about student grades, your research question could be: “What is the distribution of student grades in the dataset?”
  2. Descriptive Statistics: Use Excel to calculate the following descriptive statistics for relevant variables in your dataset: mean, standard deviation, variance, mode, and range.
  3. Summary: Write a summary of your descriptive findings, including the mean, standard deviation, variance, mode, range, maximum, and minimum values for the variables you analyzed.
  4. Interpretation: Interpret the results of your descriptive statistics. What do these statistics tell you about the dataset? Are there any notable trends or patterns?
  5. Correlation Analysis: Choose two variables from your dataset and run a correlation analysis. Provide the correlation coefficient (r-value) and interpret the strength and direction of the correlation. For example, “There is a strong positive linear correlation between X and Y.”
  6. Scatterplot: Create a scatterplot based on the two variables you analyzed in the correlation analysis. Label the axes and use the scatterplot to visually represent the relationship between the variables.

Part 2 – Inferential Statistics:

  1. Research Question: Develop a research question appropriate for inferential statistics based on your dataset. For example, if your dataset includes gender information, you could ask, “Is there a significant difference in test scores between male and female students?”
  2. Hypothesis Testing: State your null hypothesis (H0) and alternative hypothesis (H1). Specify the alpha level (significance level), such as α = 0.05.
  3. T-Test: Choose either an independent samples t-test or a paired samples t-test, depending on your research question. Perform the t-test in Excel.
  4. Results: Provide the results of the t-test, including the t-value, degrees of freedom, and p-value.
  5. Interpretation: Interpret the t-test findings and determine whether to reject or retain the null hypothesis based on the p-value and alpha level. Explain the practical significance of the results.

Part 3 – Discussion:

In this section, discuss the overall findings of your study. Summarize the key descriptive and inferential statistics, their implications, and what they reveal about the dataset and your research question. Discuss any limitations of your study and suggest potential areas for future research.

For a detailed structure and formatting, you can use the provided assignment template (EDRE-5530-Assignment-2-Template.docx) to organize your report. Be sure to reference your dataset, research questions, and results clearly in each section.

QUESTION

Description

For the assignment, you will conduct a quantitative study that will include three parts:  (1) Descriptive Statistics, (2) Inferential Statistics, and (3) Discussion of your findings.

You will choose a data set for this assignment (See Step 1 – Excel Set Up)

To guide you in this assignment, please go through the 7 steps needed to complete the assignment.  You can access the 7 steps in this module and you can see the attched file for detial

  • The 7 Steps provided in this module will give you the opportunity to submit a discussion post for Q&A and/or if you want me to review your work (this is optional)

Part 1 – Descriptive Statistics

Write a research question appropriate for descriptive statistics derived from the description of the dataset you chose (see Step 2)

Calculate descriptive statistics using Excel including: mean, standard deviation, variance, mode, & range (see Step 3)

  • Write your descriptive results in summary form including: mean, standard deviation, variance, mode, range, maximum and minimum (see Step 3)

Provide an interpretation of your descriptive findings (see Step 3)

Run a correlation between two variables providing the r-value (aka, correlation coefficient) for interpretation (ex. high positive linear correlation) (see Step 4)

  • Provide a scatterplot based on the two variables you ran in your correlation analysis (see Step 4)

Part 2 – Inferential Statistics

Write a research question appropriate for inferential statistics derived from the description of the dataset you chose (see Step 5)

State your steps for hypothesis testing including (see Step 6):

Null hypothesis and alternative hypothesis

  1. Alpha level (state desired significance level/direction)

Calculate either an independent samples t-test (gender, age, etc.) OR a paired samples t-test (pulse 1 vs. pulse 2) in MS Excel.  Choose One t-test (See Step 6)

Provide your results from the t-test (see Step 6)

  1. Interpret the t-test findings (i.e., make a determination): Reject or retain the null hypothesis (see Step 6)

Here’s a sample write up of a t-test:   kindergarten data sample write-up.docx( attched)

Part 3 – Discussion

  1. Discuss the findings from your study (see Step 7)
