For the National Geographic article assignment:

  • Micro, Meso, and Macro levels refer to different scales or perspectives of analysis. Micro is the smallest, meso is intermediate, and macro is the largest. You’ll need to provide examples from the article at each of these levels regarding how American Indians experienced adversity, survival, adaptation, and occasional prosperity.

Remember to include specific page and section numbers from the National Geographic article to support your examples. If you have specific quotes or information from the articles or textbooks you’re referencing, please provide them, and I can help you structure your responses further.

WEEK 3 PART 2
Select different examples from the article to make your points based off of this weeks National Geographic reading assignment.  The article can be found in this week’s module.

When you are working with this assignment, make sure you list the page number, and section number from where each example is selected. Explain how American Indians experienced Adversity, Survival Adaptation and Occasional Prosperity on a Micro, Meso and Macro level.

Before beginning this assignment, make sure you have read the “WEEK 3-TIP” that is placed in the “Announcement” section. The information corresponds with this assignment.

Assignment FORMAT:

MICRO **Only select two out of the four to address.

I. Adversity (.50 pts.)

II. Survival (.50 pts.)

III. Adaptation (.50 pts.)

IV. Occasional Prosperity (.50 pts.)

MESO ****Address all 4

I. Adversity (.50 pts.)

II. Survival (.50 pts.)

III. Adaptation (.50 pts.)

IV. Occasional Prosperity (.50 pts)

MACRO ****Address all 4

I. Adversity (.50 pts.)

II. Survival (.50 pts.)

III. Adaptation (.50 pts.)

IV. Occasional Prosperity (.50 pts.)

Micro level is the smallest level of something.

Example: In a family setting the micro level would be an individual in the family.

The Meso level, also known as Mezzo:

Larger level. Example: If I were describing a traditional family, I would describe the nuclear family (mom, dad, daughter and son), as the meso level.

But if I were just speaking about the daughter independently, I would be using the micro approach.

The Macro level is the largest level. If I were speaking of this family’s extended family

(grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins), then I would be speaking of the Macro level.

Another example:

Individual = Micro

Tribe = Meso

All the tribes = Macro
