First off I appreciate your role Professor and the importance you place on educating your students. I appreciate the nuggets you have shared and I am archiving these tools and resources to contribute to my advancement as a safety professional. While taking this course the concepts and strategies were actually taking place within my organization. Case in point a colleague of mine had a vehicle incident with another contractor. My Top Management suggested us doing the five why’s and I suggested a wishbone diagram. I had never heard of these concepts and strategies until this course. I was even more surprised that my Top management was aware and suggesting it at the exact same time is was my assignment. I believe the Safety Management System Review was a in-depth process that produced a deeper thought process and tool that benefits taking a thorough and deeper dive into the overall of how the safety management is functioning. The hazards analyses and risk assessments as well are great tools in a safety management toolbox. Learning how to effective utilize these tools for specific hazard mitigation is fundamental. Lastly the understanding hierarchies of control is probably the core of how I can personally approach mitigation techniques. Confined spaces, working from elevated heights, trench safety and hazardous material handling are task that I personally face during my project life span. I will apply these concepts and strategies as needed.
