Quality After-School Programs Essential.
ANSWER
Hi Jeri,
I completely agree with your perspective on the importance of before and after-school programs for children. These programs should indeed provide a positive, safe, and enjoyable environment for kids to thrive in. After spending a full day at school, it’s crucial that these programs don’t feel like an extension of the school day, but rather a place where children can explore their interests, develop social skills, and have fun.
It’s great that you had prior knowledge about the programs you mentioned, and it’s even better to hear that they have a positive reputation and offer a variety of activities for children. Having a friend who works in one of these programs can provide valuable insights into their quality and the experiences they offer to kids.
I share your confidence in programs that require staff with child development or early childhood education backgrounds. This ensures that the employees have the necessary knowledge and skills to provide appropriate care and support for children of different ages. It’s reassuring to know that these programs are staffed by professionals who understand how to engage with children in ways that promote their growth and well-being.
Overall, it’s clear that you have a good grasp of the importance of quality before and after-school programs, and your positive experiences and insights further emphasize their significance in our communities.

- I feel like the role of programs caring for children before and after school programs should be positive, safe, and fun environments for children to learn and grow. Most of these children are in school all day, therefore, the thought of doing more work after school can be a big stressful for them. That is why it should be fun and not feel like work.
- I found it easy because, the programs I mentioned, I was already familiarized with. I have a friend who work in one of them and she always explains how it works and all the activities they have available for the children. I was pleased with everything I found, because as I mentioned, I already knew about those programs and I had already heard great things about them.
- I personally do feel the existing programs are meeting the needs of children in our communities, at least the programs I listed. I know most of these programs that are not family day cares, actually require some kind of child development or early childhood education background, they don’t just hire anyone who likes to work with children. The employees actually know what they are doing and how to approach the children depending on their age.
