Question Description
- 1.Gr # 8 Waiting Line
questions for part 2
Identify examples of the use of waiting line tips recommended by psychologists (see Blackboard pdf on Queuing Theory/Waiting Line Notes) to reduce the stress of waiting; identify which local firms you feel do the best job and worst job with their lines? (Already answered)
With the most recent Black Friday, firms tried to reduce the long lines and waits by using various ideas (being open on Thanksgiving, 1 hour guaranteed stock, online 1 hr. sale, a sale starting immediately after Halloween, a month long sale, etc.); present to the class what various firms did and a review if their ideas worked or not.
- Group oral topic presenters will first summarize a recent article written for managers on the topic area (not an academic journal article written for Ph.D. readers);search best practices with___ ; new advances in ___ ;new developments in___ ;new trends in__ where you insert your topic in the blank. Present a summary of the article along with the citation in 1 slide and share your views on agreement or disagreement with the points presented by the author of the article in a 2nd slide Critique of Article . Share with the class any related work experience or observations as a consumer with the article topic and suggestions. Ask the audience if they have any observations or comments related to the article.
- Each group is presented a research task(s). Group oral topic presenters should involve the audience first by posing their question or research tasks on a PPT slide and stopping at the start to ask the audience for their opinions/views/and predictions for what they believe they would find in their research. Presenters should submit their draft presentation by email to allow time for the instructor to offer feedback/needed changes (groups that do not send a draft at least 24 hours prior to presenting to the class will get a lower score on the group chapter topic presentation task), submit their final draft presentation PPT slideshow on Blackboard before they present and also should give a hardcopy for the instructor before the start of the group presentation (black and white copy is ok and four slides per page is fine) to take notes on the presentation. If there is a recent news write-up or event/development with some business related to the topic bring that up. The group should share their experience as an employee/manager and as a customer with the topic and the group should engage the audience to share their experiences also.
- Group topic presenters should show a brief video (about 3 to 5 minutes) that ties in well with their topic and task (send the instructor the link to the video with your group Topic tasks submission to Blackboard). Presenters are graded based upon audience involvement with the presentation (consider using role playing, a debate on a controversial aspect of the topic asking the audience to judge which position won, or planted questions with friends in the audience). Presenters should present drafts of their PPT and presentation plan ideas for review/feedback at least 24 hours prior to presenting the final version of responses. If the presenter sees some new development that ties in better with the topic beyond the tasks assigned, the new item can be brought up in the presentation also. Individuals are encouraged to ask for clarification if the task instructions are not clear. It is anticipated that the topic presentations will take about 20-30 minutes including audience involvement.
