Cumberland University Week 5 Global Wireless Discussion
When dealing with mobile networks in a global economy, especially as a global company, several challenges and opportunities arise that need careful consideration. Let’s delve into some key points to discuss:
- Varying Mobile Network Quality: As mentioned, the quality and coverage of mobile networks can vary significantly from one country to another. This can impact a company’s ability to communicate and conduct business efficiently. How can a global company ensure consistent communication and data access across regions with varying network quality?
- Regulatory Differences: Government control over mobile networks can lead to regulatory variations in different countries. How can a company navigate these differences in regulations and policies governing wireless networks when expanding internationally?
- 5G and Business Transformation: The advent of 5G technology promises faster speeds and lower latency, which can enable new possibilities for businesses, such as IoT applications and real-time data analysis. How might the deployment of 5G networks influence a global company’s business strategies and operations?
- Security and Data Privacy: Wireless networks are susceptible to security threats, and data privacy regulations can differ globally. What strategies should global companies employ to ensure the security and privacy of their data when using wireless mobile networks internationally?
- Cost Management: Different countries may have varying cost structures for mobile network services. How can a global company manage costs effectively while ensuring seamless connectivity for its employees and customers?
- Local Partnerships: Establishing partnerships with local mobile network providers can be essential for success in foreign markets. What are the best practices for forming and maintaining these partnerships to ensure reliable mobile services for global operations?
- Global Competency: The reading by Fox discusses how mobile technology can increase global competency among higher education students. How might global companies leverage mobile technology to enhance the global competency of their workforce?

InfoTech in a Global Economy
Week 5 Discussion: Global Wireless
Discussion prompts:
In the Week 4 Discussion, we looked at networks in general; however, in this discussion we’re looking at wireless networks, mostly focusing on mobile networks. Mobile networks in a global economy can be a challenge for multiple reasons. First, governments in other countries control the mobile networks. Second is the technology. Mobile networks in other countries might not be as good as the mobile networks within the US. As a global company, how can we deal with this? With a big push for 5G, which has speeds well over 2Gbps, how does that change the way you do business? What are some things you need to think about when it comes to doing business globally, using a wireless mobile network?
